When I think about packing my diaper bag I can’t help but imagine Mary Poppins. Like I want to have everything and anything for whatever situation and being a new mom I know there is no situation that’s off-limits. When I have a good feeling about what’s in my diaper bag I feel way better walking out the door even if that means throwing toys and other “in case the baby needs items” at the last minute. These Diaper Bag MUST HAVES will change the game for you. I was a first time mom and had no clue what went inside a diaper bag. I mean I had the basics down like diaper and wipes… but never would have thought of nursing bads.
MY DIAPER BAG MUST HAVES:
1.The Bag
I use the Fawn Diaper and I absolutely love my diaper bag. It really does fit “half my house” as my husband would say. It’s so durable and can be thrown on like a backpack or over the shoulder. I have to say though that my favorite thing about my bag is the look! I mean if mama is going to trade her purse in for the full-on “mom look” might as well look good. Am I right!
2.Wipes + Diapers
I like to make sure I have at least 8 diapers in case I need to run out of the house I know I have enough. Plus you can never be over-prepared with a new baby.
3.Changing Mat
I looked high and low for a changing mat that would go best with my diaper bag and was super easy to clean. I have the Gather mat and it is truly awesome. I always get compliments on it all the time and it folds so seamlessly.
4.Plastic Bags
Yes, they look like doggie poop bags. (LOL) These really do come in handy though when your little one decides to let it rip and you have to make a change in the backseat. Those baggies really do mask the stench! (PHEW!)
5.Nursing Cover
If you’re a nursing mama this is your best friend when you’re trying to nurse your baby in public. Most nursing covers have multiple uses so even if I’m not using it as a cover-up I’m throwing it over the grocery cart or covering the car seat.
6.Extra Clothes
There’s no such thing as being over-prepared when you’re a mom. I don’t know how many times I have used the extra onesies or pants in my diaper bag. I like to always have at least an onesie, bottoms, socks, and an extra shirt. Sometimes those snacks can get a little messy!
7.Snacks + Cup
If your little one is not eating solids you can totally skip this step. Making sure baby has a few snacks to keep him/her entertained means a few extra minutes to stroll down the Target aisles!
8.Toys
This is not essential but I like to keep 1-2 small toys to help with drives home or in the check-out line.
9.Mini Items
Mini soap, mini lotion, mini diaper rash cream, mini hand sanitizer. These come in handy more than you would think. Like the times we stay late at my parents or in-laws I can quickly bathe baby so when we get home it’s straight to bed.
10.Mama’s Stuff
- Lipstick/ Lip Balm ( I love a tinted lip balm)
- Hand cream
- Wallet
- Compact mirror
- Nursing pads ( yes I have leaked through my shirt before…didn’t think it would happen)
- Snacks (mama gets hungry too)
Pretty Much that it… honestly you put what makes you feel good in your diaper bag! A good prepped diaper bag means you can conquer anything! (well at least we feel like it)!
