Can we just talk about how finding the perfect bible reading plan for busy moms like us can be a bit stressful sometimes? My son is almost two and I still feel like finding time with Jesus can be difficult sometimes. Let’s face it finding time to do a lot of things can be hard as a mom.
The beauty is Jesus doesn’t ask us to devote a certain amount of time a day to have a relationship with HIM. I have to remind myself of that so many times when I feel the pressure of trying to make time to read my bible, pray, or even just soak in God’s presence. If you are looking for tips on how to navigate the busy mom life and reading your word then keep on reading!
Find your best time to have a quiet moment.
I know what you are thinking… “GIRL WHAT TIME?”. New mom life (heck, any stage of mom life) can sometimes be hard to find time for yourself. Think about it like this. What is the time you like to spend a moment just sitting and catching your breath?
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Did you find yourself in a better mood at night or in the morning? I’m such a morning person and can wake up get the day going. I’m definitely not the night owl. I’m already yawning at like 9 pm. You will know right away what type of person you are and if you are a combination of both will that’s a bonus. Use that time to sit quietly and pray, listen to some worship, journal, or even read your bible. Finding that quiet uninterrupted time is so important so you don’t feel rushed or pressured.
Find a comfortable place
This can literally be anywhere. Like if you have older kids that need to get dropped off at school you can take some time in the parking lot. I just like to roll out of bed and make my way to the couch with a cup of hot coffee and my bible. It can be anywhere you feel is comfortable.
You can even step outside when the weather is super nice to read or just soak in the presence of the Lord. I know I keep saying it over and over, but seriously even if it’s just you sitting and meditating on the Lord it really does make such a difference in your day. I even notice a difference in my kids when I take the time to pray with them in the morning.
Talk to Jesus whenever you can… washing dishes, doing laundry, taking a shower.
Yup. It’s true I find the time I am praying the most is when I’m doing something. Navigating and figuring out things as a new mom can be tiring for sure. If I’m honest spending time with Jesus, reading my bible, or finding a bible plan was not on my top list of priorities. In fact many times I forget about it altogether.
I found that when I’m folding laundry I like to pray for my family. As I pull the next shirt out of the dryer if it’s a mine or my husband’s I take the time to lift that person up in prayer. It’s so easy to do and you get to have that time in prayer. Before you know it you will be still in the middle of praying over your family and be done with that load of clothes.
Give yourself grace…
Don’t beat yourself up if you haven’t been able to physically pick up your bible and read, or if you haven’t started a new bible reading plan. I had to learn this the hard way. I was condemning myself when the Lord never wanted me to. Plus I was making my personal time with Jesus as a checklist task rather than something genuine.
I remember the Lord speaking so clearly to me and saying… ‘Does your husband put you on his schedule or calendar? Does he treat you like a task just to check off his daily routine?’ It was so clear to me that I didn’t want to have a relationship with Jesus like that. He was so gentle and loving with me and I was the one who was making a mess out of something. So just remember the Lord desires a close relationship with you and not a religion. He knows your heart and see’s how you long for him.
So if you are looking for the perfect routine… there’s not one, and that’s ok. You won’t find a guide to making you find more time.
